Our vision is simple: we want a better world – where corruption is challenged and accountability prevails, all can thrive within the planet’s boundaries, and governments act in the public interest.
At Global Witness we investigate and campaign to stop human rights and environmental abuses caused by corruption and the exploitation of natural resources.
About the role
This is a great time to join Global Witness as we continue to drive change and increase the global impact of our work. We’re looking for someone who can work with our UK and US based teams to lead our EU work in Brussels. Our priorities in the EU over the next 3 years will include:
- Campaigning for timely and robust implementation of Mineral Supply Chain due diligence
- Ensuring the effective implementation of EU Transparency and Accounting Directives
- Shareholders Rights and Pension Directives: influencing EU companies to do due diligence and risk analysis on land grabbing, human rights abuses and environmental destruction
- Advocating for changes in EU aid and trade policies to protect tropical forests, for example, the implementation of the European Union Timber Regulation
You’ll have a strong track record in leading EU advocacy for an international NGO in Brussels or in another European capital. You’ll bring a deep understanding and knowledge of EU policies, processes and institutions to support us in delivering the impact and change we want. You’ll be able to demonstrate that you’ve developed positive relationships with senior policy makers, allies and constituencies and you’ll be confident working in coalitions to influence change.
As this is a new role in Brussels, we’re looking for someone who can really increase our presence in Brussels. Whilst you’ll have great support from your UK and US colleagues and there will be regular visits from and to our London office, you’ll need to feel comfortable on a daily basis working on your own whilst we start to build our set up in Brussels.
