The Office of the Secretary General (OSG) provides general services to the Secretary General (SG), the Chairperson-in-Office and the participating States. It groups service-oriented offices (Legal Services, Conference and Language Services, the Prague Office and Central Records Management), and policy-oriented offices Communication and Media Relations, External Co-operation, Gender Affairs) as well as Security Management and Executive Management. The OSG also ensures effective co-ordination of policy advice provided to the Secretary General and the Chairmanship, and management decisions taken by the Secretary General. The OSG is led by a Director who also functions as the Head of the Executive Management Section.

The External Co-operation Section is part of the OSG and is the initial point of contact at headquarters level for liaison with international, regional and sub-regional organizations and institutions. It is also responsible for providing support to the OSCE’s 11 Partners for Co-operation, both Mediterranean and Asian, as well as with regional organizations outside the OSCE area, academic institutions, think-tanks, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

The External Co-operation Section is looking for candidates for a 3-6 month internship starting as soon as possible.

Tasks and Responsibilities
The selected intern will have an opportunity to gain an overview of the OSCE’s priorities and activities in relation to other international and regional organizations, as well as the Mediterranean and Asian Partners for Co-operation. The selected intern will work with all members of the team and will be tasked with:


  • Assisting in the preparation of meetings with the Partners for Co-operation, and international and regional organizations, including by compiling background information, taking minutes and preparing reports;
  • Following developments in other international and regional organizations, and preparing relevant briefs;
  • Attending meetings of the Permanent Council, the Contact Groups with Partners for Co-operation, the Preparatory Committee, and other relevant OSCE meeting as required, and taking notes for internal reporting purposes;
  • Assisting with the drafting of speaking points and statements for the Chairmanship, the Secretary General, the Head of Section and other senior OSCE officials, as requested;
  • Assisting the Manager of the Partnership Fund with the administration of the Fund;
  • Assisting the Section in its daily activities and performing other duties as requested.
Necessary Qualifications
  • Applicants should be under the age of 30 (on the date of the deadline for this vacancy) and from an OSCE participating State;
  • Students in the final year of higher education (university or other accredited institution) at graduate or postgraduate level, i.e. within one year of graduation, or recent graduates or postgraduates, with a background in political sciences, international relations and/or international law or related subject;
  • Strong analytical, research and drafting skills;
  • Previous experience in working for an international or regional organizations is an asset;
  • Professional fluency in English with excellent communication skills; knowledge of other OSCE working languages is an asset;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural background, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.
Remuneration Package
The OSCE is not in a position to pay and remuneration during the internship nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Vienna may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Vienna.
The internship will lasts three (3) to six (6) month and does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.

The selected intern will participate in the group health insurance scheme at his/her own expense but the OSCE will cover life and disability insurance.
