EPPO: THE FIRST SHARP TOOL TO DEFEND RULE OF LAW IN THE EU
Discussion with LAURA CODRUȚA KÖVESI, European Chief Prosecutor
Tuesday, 18. February 2020 | 16:00 – 17:00, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava, Gondova 2, Bratislava | Room G236
The discussion will be held in English without interpretation. Chaired by Erik Láštic, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University.
The EU prosecutor’s mission is to tackle fraud against the EU finances. Member states lose at least €50 billion in VAT revenue every year because of transnational fraud. Hundreds of millions are lost due to frauds affecting the EU structural funds. Investigations, carried out by national institutions, we often closed without any results.
Corruption and non-functioning institutions of the rule of law are threatening the foundations of the European cooperation. Could it be reversed by the EU prosecutor? How will the EPPO cooperate with other European institutions, and national law-enforcement bodies?
Organized by Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava and EURACTIV.sk.
