United Nations Development Programme Bangkok Regional Hub (UNDP BRH) offers an internships position to serve in the Effective Governance and Peacebuilding Team, with a focus on supporting the areas of Rule of Law, Transparency, Accountability and Anti-Corruption in the summer of 2016.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Anti-corruption Advisor and the  Programme Advisor on Governance, Conflict Prevention, Access to Justice and Human Rights, the intern will assist UNDP BRH with the tasks outlined below (scope of work) supporting the tram’s outreach and documentation activities:

Support to UNDP events organizations (40%)
The intern will help managing general documentation and provide meeting support related to workshops, seminars, events in the areas of transparency, accountability, anti-corruption, rule of law and access to justice.

Research, documentation and knowledge management (40%)
The intern will give support to research activities on various issues related to governance, transparency, accountability, anti-corruption (AC), human rights (HR), rule of law (ROL) and access to justice (A2J ) in Asia-Pacific countries.  He/she will provide support: (i) doing research and drafting situation analyses to support country work;  (ii) mapping work and initiatives carried out in UNDP country offices and by other actors so that we can better share information and identify synergies; (iii) editing and preparing reports, newsletters, presentations as requested.

Other Activities (20%)
Help with other tasks in the team as required.
The intern will work under the primary supervision of the Regional Anti-corruption Advisor and the  Programme Advisor on Governance, Conflict Prevention, Access to Justice and Human Rights in the Governance and Peace Building Team, UNDP BRH.

•    Computer literate in standard software applications and familiarity with internet-based research;
•    Energetic self-starter with multi-tasking abilities and discipline with deadlines;
•    Ability to succesfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
•    Interest in the work of the UN, and of UNDP in particular, and a personal commitment to UNDP’s Statement of Purpose and to the ideals of the UN Charter;
•    Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and the UNDP Statement of Purpose.

Required Skills and Experience


•    Currently enrolled in graduate-level degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, International Development, International Relations or any other relevant field;
•    Candidates who have graduated are not eligible for internship.


•    Knowledge of international development trends, especially related to governance, transparency, accountability, anti-corruption (AC), human rights (HR), rule of law (ROL) and access to Justice (A2J) in Asia-Pacific countries.


•    Excellent writing and drafting skills in English;
•    Fluency in an additional UN working language (i.e. French or Spanish) is desirable and knowledge of another UN language is an asset.


•    UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
•    All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
•    UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
•    The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
•    Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
•    The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
•    Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;

Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.

Subsequent Employment:

•    The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
