Autumn 2015 Internship (PAID)
The European Foundation for Democracy (EFD) is a policy institute based in Brussels. We are seeking high-calibre graduate students/recent graduates with an interest in public affairs and strategic communications relating to security and foreign policy issues.
The successful applicant must be capable of supporting our Brussels team in leading advocacy and public affairs with European and international policymakers. The following is a non-exhaustive list, in order of priority, of the primary tasks on which he/she will work:
  • managing the logistics of high-profile public and closed-door briefings (including travel and accommodation arrangements, filing expense reports, etc)
  • updating lists of activities, media articles and speeches of EFD’s experts and updating the website and database accordingly
  • liaising with EFD’s policy experts and providing research and administrative support
  • monitoring relevant EP committees’ agendas and meetings, EU and national government developments as well as the work of think tanks, policy institutes and other NGOs in Brussels and abroad
  • undertaking research on a range of EU legislative and policy issues, support with electronic clipping, wires and translations and preparing concise and clear briefing documents in English within limited time frames.
Our interns benefit from the opportunity of participating directly in shaping public debate and legislation in Brussels and other European capitals. They also regularly meet with inspiring experts and policy analysts from Europe and further afield.
Candidates must be willing to devote a minimum of three months to the internship in Brussels. The successful applicant will begin in September 2015.
  • Current or recent graduate student in relevant disciplines such as international affairs, public affairs, law, journalism, or communications.
  • Native English speakers
  • Experience of the Stage at one of the EU institutions a plus
  • Strong research skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience curating and managing websites is a plus
  • Proficiency in French and German is a plus
