Starting salary £31,233 plus pension and excellent benefits
Wilmslow (near Manchester), Cheshire
Post Ref: SPO0517
Are you interested in privacy and transparency?
Do you think information about people should be protected properly?
Do you have excellent analytical and communication skills?
As an independent body serving the public, The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) upholds information rights for all. We do this by promoting openness in public bodies, as well as data privacy for individuals, using our powers to enforce the law where necessary.
About the role
Role in our new International Strategy and Intelligence Department.
As a key member of a small team you will help to maximise the influence of the ICO with its many stakeholders abroad, as well as in the UK where major international issues are playing out. Your primary responsibility will be to analyse and interpret information rights legislation and to take the lead on relevant international matters contributing to the ICO’s International Strategy.
The role requires excellent analytical ability and strong communication skills. We need people who can prioritise competing issues and tasks in a very varied workload and contribute effectively as part of a team often with demanding deadlines. Degree educated or equivalent, you will have a strong interest in the information rights landscape. Whilst knowledge of information rights laws would be desirable we would also welcome applications from those who can demonstrate experience of applying similarly complex legislation and the ability to adapt quickly.
Work includes co-ordinating the ICO’s involvement with the EU and non-EU privacy and data protection authorities as well as international organisations and other bodies across business and civil society. You need to be able to easily adapt your messages for internal and external audiences and coordinate effective input from departments across the ICO to respond to external enquirers whose first language is not English. You have excellent presentation skills and you are used to presenting to large audiences of different sizes and nationalities.
The post is based in our Wilmslow head office but you will be required to travel often (at least once every month and possibly for several days at a time) to engagements in the UK, in Europe and possibly further afield. Therefore, your ability and willingness to work outside of normal office hours is essential.
