Org. Setting and Reporting
The Internship position is located in the News and Media Unit, United Nations Information Service UNIS, Vienna (Austria). The Internship is for three months starting in December 2016 with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.The internship is UNPAID and full-time.Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the direct supervision of Professional staff of the Unit.For more information on UNIS, please visit the following website: www.unis.unvienna.org
The Intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:
– Analysis of German language media coverage of various UN topics;
– Compilation of press reviews of Austrian media;
– Drafting content for social media platforms (Twitter and Facebook) and the UNIS website;
– Drafting, editing and translating a wide range of media texts, including press releases, opinion pieces, online articles in German and English;
– Assisting in the full production cycle of videos, photos as well as audio to promote specific UN topics and the work of the organization
– Assisting in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of press briefings, outreach, awareness-raising events and high-level visits/ conferences;
– Assisting the News & Media team through research on specific topics and themes;
– Performing other tasks as necessary.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: •Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)•Be computer literate in standard software applications•Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; andHave a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this Internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in oral and written German is highly desirable. Knowledge of a UNIS client country language (Hungarian, Slovak, Slovene) is an additional asset.
